Bluestown Music

English TranslationReview by Peeter Manlius

Although we're dealing with a debut single here, drummer, songwriter and producer Steve Shive, from Buck County, PA, is by no means a rookie in the music world. In the past he has drummed with artists such as Tim Moore, Daryl Hall, Robbie Dupree, David Lindley (Jackson Browne), the late Skip Scarborough (Bill Withers, EWF) and Kingfish to name a few.

Fair Warning (Last Drop Of Sympathy) therefore has a very experienced soulful sound.

The Urban Saints on this recording features expert musicians such as Glenn McClelland (keyboards, (Blood, Sweat & Tears), Bob Lizik (bass, Brian Wilson and Mavis Staples), vocalist and harmonica player Mikey Junior, Steve's son Ryan Shive (guitar), & on this song, Edison Wilson & Steve on (backing vocals).

Fair Warning (Last Drop Of Sympathy) is a wonderfully relaxed groovy, and especially soulful, song with a biting blues guitar and the soft howling harmonica and very soulful vocals of Mikey Junior.

In terms of style, you should think about the sound of Jimmy Hall, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Carrack and Hall & Oates with this song.

A very pleasant soulful song, which makes it look like an EP album by Steve Shive & the Urban Saints is coming in the near future!
